Dean's Greetings

אסף פרידלר

Dear members of the Faculty of Mathematics & Sciences

I am honored and excited to take on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Science. I studied for my bachelors’ degree in Chemistry in this Faculty and we have not been apart since, with the exception of a few years that I spent abroad during my post-doctoral studies. The Faculty of Science has been my home within the University since 1992 - First as  an undergraduate student, then as a direct track to PhD student
and Teaching Assistant, and finally as a member of the academic faculty, since 2004.

The goal of The Faculty of Science is to be a leader in research, teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship as well as in diversity and multiculturalism, and of course we aim to provide the students with the best studying experience. We aim to build an active and dynamic scientific community that incorporates our academic, technical and administrative staff, as well as undergraduate and graduate students at all levels. For us, “community” is the keyword – creating a space where all the different stakeholders can contribute and bring their ideas. My door is always open for a discussion with every member of our faculty community. I am always delighted to meet and to hear new ideas and suggestions. It is important to know what can be improved, and no less important to know what is working well and should be left untouched. By working together in a positive and constructive spirit, we will elevate the faculty’s research and teaching.

Participating in the teaching program offered by The Faculty of Science provides more than simply gaining knowledge in the various fields. No less importantly – it imparts new ways of thinking that will stay with you for life: logical, scientific, quantifiable reasoning, based on facts and forecasts, data and its in-depth analysis rather than guesswork and unfounded assumptions. This has taken on new importance in an age where we are constantly being flooded with information, some of which is inaccurate to say the least. The tools acquired through studying in the faculty will facilitate effective and critical thinking, in science as well as in everyday life. If this comes to fruition, then we have done our duty as an academic institution.
