For the first time

For the first time, the Hebrew University is represented at the International Data Day 2020 (world wide data day), by a doctoral student from the research group of Prof. Guy Ron of the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Hebrew University is the only country represented this year.

Doctoral student Dan Cohen is the representative of the Hebrew University at the international conference which was held in global cooperation led by the LHC, to mark Data Day. Data Day marks the system created to make information accessible to scientists around the world. During 24 hours, between midnight and midnight, students from around the world can analyze data from the world's largest particle accelerator located in Capt., Switzerland and share results via video conferencing, just as important measurements made by various researchers are accessible to students and scientists around the world.

The activity on this day was based on a collaboration between schools around the world and international mentors for nuclear physics, in order to make accurate measurements that will eventually be crystallized into a uniform global measurement in order to calibrate the two main detectors in the accelerator, ATLAS and CMS.

Doctoral student Dan Cohen from Prof. Guy Ron's research group recounts his experience as a mentor on this day: "The Hebrew University gave me the opportunity to attend international events. It was fascinating, I loved the opportunity to let the children explore science with me and give them the feeling that is somewhat forgotten today. "There is much more to discover."
