Storm Rains in the Sahara Offer a Glimpse into Climate Change

A new study led by Dr. Moshe (Koko) Armon from the Institute of Earth Sciences, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Haifa, ETH Zurich, and the University of Bern in Switzerland, illustrates how unusual rainfall originating from the Atlantic Ocean fills Sebkha el-Melah Lake in the northwestern Sahara. The research sheds light on the meteorological conditions required to trigger rare flood events in the Sahara and offers a fresh perspective on past and future climate change.
