The Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences is playing an active role in an unprecedented revolution that is taking place in the field of life sciences. The research in the institute encompasses six primary areas of study (presented in alphabetical order): cellular and developmental biology, ecology, evolution and behavior, genetics and genomics, molecular and structural biochemistry and proteomics, neuroscience, and plant and environmental sciences. The institute’s impact comes from its multi-disciplinary approach to investigating the scientific questions of the day and its researchers’ ability to combine classic research methods with innovative and groundbreaking methods and approaches.
The institute includes several advanced service hubs that advance our scientific work. These centers also serve as teaching hubs for the wider life sciences research community in Israel, offering seminars and courses in collaboration with the institute’s researchers and various companies in the biotech industry.

The institute’s research covers a range of disciplines:

 • Ecology, Evolution and Sociobiology
 • Biotechnology and Bioengineering
 • Biochemistry and Molecular and Structural Biology
 • Cellular and Developmental Biology and Systems Biology
 • Genetics, Genomics and Computational Biology
 • Environmental Science, Marine Biology and limnology
 • Plant Science and Agronomy
 • Neuroscience and Behavioral Neuroscience
